Research Task 2: Real Life Principles

20289273

For my second project I was advised to study the principles of animation but in real life and see how that is then applied to animation.

The first video I want to explore is the video I took of my cat jumping out at us when playing. One thing I instantly noticed was the exhilaration of getting ready to bounce. She then bounced in a ARC shape. I think everything moves naturally in an arc, and her doing that would help her bounce and move faster instead of just going straight forward.

ARC/ANTICIPATION

Here is a slowed down version to show you exactly where the arc is -

I also believe the way she jumps from crouching is an example of anticipation. We knew that when she was crouching she was getting ready to jump (anticipating us,audience, for an action which was jumping)

Follow through and overlapping action

My boyfriend demonstrates the principle of Following through and overlapping action. This video clearly shows him jumping up and landing back down, all while his hair still holds movement. I have slowed down the important part down so you can see clearly his hair moving despite his body being immobile.

STAGING

This is a video I took of my fish swimming in his tank. I figured it would be a good use of staging as there are multiple things going on in the frame, however the first thing you look at is the fish swimming. His colors compared to the rest of the tank stand out, and his rapid movements also help him stand out against his still background. While there are small movements (like the bubbles from the filter) , the shape of the fish, color and movement overpower the soft and small movements of the bubbles.
