The visual language and design is important when it comers to everyday use. Its more than pretty writing or images, it has to appeal to the user in terms of use and understanding through image communication.
While writers use words to communicate, it is important for us to communicate globally as a species visually without the use of words (all to avoid the issues of mistranslation) and to have one specific symbol mean something that anyone can understand (ie. airport signs. toilet signs)
Whatever the design process will be, the design needs to be easy to understand; Shapes, colours, scale and layout are important aspects to take into consideration when signing something that can be understood without the use of words (like indexical signs, Semiotics etc )
Analyzing images is easy, but its the idea behind them and the meaning is where it becomes important. After learning the basic design principles during class, putting them together with the idea of semiotics, index and metaphorical - all of those come together to create a graphical translation without the use of writing.
I created these quick illustration to show the idea of visual language and how important the layout is for example, on a phone. Its important to access whatever you are trying to show in a easy and quick manner, and not make it too clustering for the viewer.
