Evaluation: Project + exhibition

20289273

At the start of the project I wanted to create a possible game that explored many different situations that reflect on the real life problems. Social heirarchy , class divide - but I didnt want to be limited. I didnt know what the final outcome of this project was going to be at the start, so I began developing this idea with my group.

As a group, we ended up deciding to do a series, as all of us just wanted Arcane which we loved and decided to use that as our main source of inspiration. After consulting our animation tutor - he gave us a wonderful idea that for the exhibition, we could present an art book. We recieved two artbooks from him to refer to, and began talking about the ideas and what we could do. In our brief, we specified that we would like the work to lead to artbooks, a trailer, possibly cardboard cut out of the characters - and zines.

Through this project, I learnt that ideas continously change throughout the project- ESPECIALLY when working with other people. This module has allowed me to learn new skills such as learning Indesign and has also taught me how to work against a scheduele and plans.

There are many things that I could've done better. The major thing would be the scheduele and planning. I did struggle throughout my project to stick to the scheduele, and remember to update it as well as my blog - which ended up with me having to rush some things at the end regarding to uploading my blog as I have forgotten about the idea that the exhibition wouldnt be seen by EVERYONE, so I had to cover the factor that it was accessable to everyone. If I would do the project again, I would aim my work to be more based around structure, and follow a better scheduele.

The major flaw of the entire project was the final day of printing for the exhibition. Unfortunately, I exported my pages incorrectly which resulted them to look pixalated in the final art book. I unfortunately had no time to resolve it, however they didnt look as poor as I thought - and almost nobody paid attention to it. However, next time I know how to properly export my pages from Indesign and to do it a day before incase issues like this appear.

In order to improve, I will keep an eye on my scheduele and make sure I have the correct brief dates so I dont run out of time. The reason I couldnt do so this time around was due to the files I was recieving - they would not open as they werent the correct files, so for a while I wasnt able to access the correct brief dates.

I am moderatly happy with the quality of my result. However as mentioned previously, my final art book pages printed out rather pixalated. I know that not everyone that will be marking my work would have seen those pages, so I exported them correctly and uploaded them on my blog so they are seen in the highest quality.

I believe we followed the brief very closely in terms of what we were delivering and the amount of work we produced. In the brief, we stated that the purpose of our work was to shed the light onto the misconduct of our modern society, and the work I produced has highlighted many important factors that are fought in real life.

Is there anything I can do to make the work more appealing?...

I believe if i take up this project in 3rd year, I will have time to think about this. However for now I am incredibly happy with how appealing the books turned out to be and how the exhibition ended up. We wanted to show our target audience that if we can do anything in this world, we can do it together. Our artbook is all about coming together as a society and working together towards a goal. During the exhibition, another 'flaw' that at first appeared to be a mishap, was actually something that our project was stressing that was so important. Somehow, the alphabet page that Aleks designed and the spell page she wrote, was grammatically incorrect. But during the exhibition, that brought two strangers together who came to visit the exhibition, and they solved the mystery of the grammatically incorrect spell together.

The feedback I have recieved on the final work was very good. I was informed that this project had the potential to be taken into my third year and had the potential to be fleshed out into an industry standard project. Despite us not being able to complete the animated trailer in time, the ideas that didnt happen this time around, seemed very possibly if we decide to take this into third year.

My involvement and planning in the exhibition were gathering the pieces of the exhibition together. As a group, we went down the day before the exhibition and put up the posters on the walls. The original spot was unfortunately not viable for our posters as they wouldnt stick, so we moved to the walls. Nathan and Aleks put our posters up on the black card to display them properly. On the day, I decided to start printing out the pages which Aleks and Nathan followed with. I put two of the books together and Aleks and Nathan took them and set up the rest of the table for the exhibition.
