Overall, I am happy with how my video turned out. I wanted to focus on how uncomfortable some people were once the lockdown restrictions were lifted, and I wanted to show that through my own ‘eyes’ and how I also see the world now that we’re no longer stuck inside. I wanted my video to show that the world and life feels very different and not the same as before; It feels scary to some.
Despite how long this video took me to make, I am glad that I took my time in my research and general outdoor activity to become inspired enough to create something like that. I was also inspired by the class talk we would often have in tutorial, before we were sent into lockdown AND through zoom call- just how life feels a little scarier being around people. My general aim is to make the viewer uncomfortable and unsettled by the low bass and the distant talking which eventually gets loud for the silence at the end to feel louder than all of those combined. I used the clips I recorded on my phone (for the effect of seeing things through ”Your” perspective) and edited them all in after effects. I added tv static and a hazed effect, something that adds onto the ‘outwordly’ effect, and made it feel like nature and outdoor activity was something that is no longer accepted. That and it doesn’t exist anymore.
Originally, my storyboard planning was to record my daily activity to show the same tiring routine of being stuck in a lock down, but we eventually left the lockdown and my ideal plans changed. At some point, I was stuck in the same routine nevertheless and I became incredibly uninspired. That led to me leaving town in order to find inspiration in a completely new place: I visited Bath spa and studied their architecture and just how different the general area was. The main thing I noted was just how busy the place was, despite everything still being closed (of course thats down to the students) but thats where I became inspired to create a lockdown paranoia video.
