Gathering cartoon research

To gather research for my scary book brief, I have been looking at cartoons that I used to watch as a child that I seem to remember being scared of. Since I didnt really read as much, I think cartoons are the next best thing as most of the time, movies end up becoming books or other way around; so the overall concept is the same.

The main inspirations ive had are: The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack , Advernture time and Goosebumps.

I definitly think the "scare" factor has changed overtime, as adults become more sensitive to what their kids are exposed to at young ages. For example ... I dont see images like this in cartoons anymore:








I think in childrens book, its a lot more calm rather than shows - and the fear factor comes from tension of not knowing the source of the problem or generally not knowing what comes next.
