When I was given the task to create the map, there were many plans and ideas we went through. We sketched a bunch of ideas based on these two images:
I looked at these two images as I wanted to clash them together so everyone’s monsters and creatures would belong ”somewhere”. Referring to my book sketches, the map began growing too big and complicated so I had to confine it into something simple. As a group, we brainstormed ideas and as we explained our characters, I sketched out a simpler version that all of them would belong. I categorised it into three main bits. Heaven for deities, Hell for demons and the middle ground for spirits as those were the top three categories of ‘creatures and beings’ that everyone had. I looked at different tree references and stuck to the idea of creating a bonsai tree. The branches curled out into different parts and I think that looked much more appealing and fit better. I also didn’t want to copy ’the tree of life’ too closely. I picked out different images of bonsai trees and merged them together into this: (pardon the low quality. I had to lower it in order to print the map out to box size)
I implemented the waterfall and trees characteristics to represent different “realms” . As in my book, everything is labelled as different realms for different creatures (elves etc) The bridge represents earth, the middle ground: kind of like a bridge between everything.
For heaven and earth, there are multiple realms for the whole thing, but I avoided listing them all so everyone wouldn’t get confused, and confined them into ”heaven“ and ”ignis”
For the physical submission, we made the background monochrome and labelled it so people would find it easy to refer to.
